Mikrolimano shootings suspect charged, to testify on Friday
The 31-year-old Albanian national accused of opening fire on a Mikrolimano night club was on Thursday charged with multiple counts of attempted homicide and aggravated cases of carrying and using a firearm. He was given until Friday morning to prepare his testimony.
Arber Bako was arrested on Wednesday as the gunman that ripped through a nightclub in Mikrolimano, Piraeus with a Kalashnikov automatic rifle on Saturday night, injuring 11 people. He was led before a Piraeus prosecutor under stringent security measures on Thursday.
Police tracked him to an apartment in the Athens district of Goudi and arrested him in a coordinated police operation, acting on a tip-off that the apartment was being rented by a 23-year-old Albanian detained for a serious of crimes. Police said that Bako, after the shoot-out, threw the Kalasnikov into the sea near Mikrolimano.
Authorities are continuing a seach for two more Albanians wanted in connection with the shoot-out in Mikrolimano.
According to up to date information, the reason for the crime was the staff's reaction when the three Albanian wanted to leave and take with them a young dancer of the club together with her cousin. For this reason the three perpetrators had made a reservation at a hotel opposite the nightclub.
Police are examining the possibility that Bako may be responsible for another three armed attacks resulting in the death of a 44 year-old Greek and the injury of an Egyptian.
The 23-year-old Albanian that had put up the fugitive will face charges for harbouring a criminal.
