New ambassador to Canada takes up his post
George Markantonatos met with Greek community members of Greater Montreal after his arrival to assume his duties as newly-appointed Greek ambassador to Canada.
Markantonatos also met with members of the Canadian Hellenic Congress of Quebec and spoke to Greek-Canadian media about overseas Greeks, whom he called Greece's "national capital" during critical times.
He said that during his stay in Ottawa he will focus on promoting bilateral trade relations, imports of Greek products and tourism to Greece.
