Alternate Civil Protection Min Panousis speaks about Police

"The Police cannot become an institution against democracy," Alternate Civil Protection minister Yiannis Panousis told Skai.

"What matters the most is the reconciliation of the Police with the constitutional and democratic context and the society," he added.

He also said police officers should not be armed when they are in a sports venues, that they should not be even inside a sports venue but outside it according to the law and added that the same thing should apply to demonstrations.

"I do not see why we should have 100 protesters and 200 armed police officers," he said, clarifying however "there should be a general monitoring."

He noted that police officers would obviously have a weapon, which will show that the law and order are in place but he explained that pointing a gun at someone or shooting is a different thing.
