Eurogroup Working Group meeting on Greece; 'moderate' expectations in Berlin

There is slow but steady progress in the negotiations between Greece and its creditors, sources at the European Commission said on Wednesday and announced that the Eurogroup Working Group (EWG) teleconference on Greece is due to begin at 16:00 (Greek time).

They said that the talks aiming to complete the reforms were continuing, both in the Brussels Group via e-mail and in Athens to collect figures and data. The prospect of a Eurogroup meeting in the week before Orthodox Easter (April 12) was, however, unlikely, the sources said.

Speaking in Berlin, meanwhile, German finance ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger said the German government expected Wednesday's EWG to arrive at an interim assessment of the situation in Greece rather an an agreement.

He said Berlin's expectations did not extend beyond an "preliminary interim assessment" at best and noted that it was hard to foresee how things will develop in the coming week.
