Faymann: We want Greece to stay in the eurozone

All sides wanted to keep Greece in the eurozone, Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann said on Friday, in statements at the EU Eastern Partnership summit in Riga where he had earlier met with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

"We are interested in Greece staying in the eurozone and for the question 'How long will Greece remain in the eurozone?' to stop being asked," Faymann told reporters.

He said that his meeting with Tsipras on the sidelines of the summit concerned the Austrian chancellor's upcoming trip to Athens in June, with the two sides now working to set a precise time.

Faymann added that the Eurogroup must decide a meeting on the issue of Greece, saying that his impression was that the talks were now at a "very intensive stage" and expressing his desire that stability should be achieved.

According to the Austrian chancellor, Greece must find a way to work through the difficulties and use the money, with clear formulas and programmes that have been jointly agreed, adding that the opinion of the finance ministers was necessary in this respect.

"Nothing is given away," he emphasised.
