PM Tsipras meets Merkel, repeats Athens' determination for Skopje name issue solution

Meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras reiterated the Greek government's determination to find a sustainable, stable and mutually acceptable solution regarding the name of Skopje, with a single name to be used for all purposes (erga omnes).

Tsipras met Merkel on the sidelines of the International High Level Conference on the Sahel taking place in Brussels.

According to Greek government sources, their talks focused on the results of Skopje Prime Minister Zoran Zaev's visit to Germany. Sources say that Merkel continues to encourage the government in Skopje to work in the direction of a solution.

On the sidelines of the Informal EU Summit, Tsipras will participate in a quadrilateral meeting with German Chancellor Merkel, European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker and the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov.

Tsipras is scheduled to meet with High Representative of EU on Foreign Policy and Safety Issues Federica Mogherini at 15:30 (Athens time) while a meeting with Juncker is pending. In both meetings Tsipras, will focus on Juncker and Mogherini's upcoming tour of the Western Balkans. Tsipras will discuss the Skopje name issue and other issues related to the region.
