Russia bans import of dairy products from Ukraine

Russian authorities have banned imports of all dairy products from Ukraine, starting Monday, July 28, reports Itar-Tass, according to a senior official at the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Rosselkhoznadzor.

"The related documents will be signed later today," said Alexei Alexeyenko, Rosselkhoznadzor's Deputy Chief.

"The ban concerns, first and foremost, the imports of cheeses that might be hazardous since their production process includes palm oil of unknown quality and origin," Alexeyenko said.

Rosselkhoznadzor officials believe the ban will not entail any consequences for Russia in the format of the World Trade Organization.

"A letter containing proposals on the soonest possible negotiations will be sent to the Ukrainian Veterinary Service today," Alexeyenko said.
