IMF: Sanctions against Russia will have an impact in other countries

The sanctions imposed by Western countries on Russia for its role in the Ukrainian crisis pose the risk of having an economic "impact" in other countries of the region, the International Monetary Fund warned.

"At the regional level, there will definitely be some impact", particularly in the area of trade, said William Murray, spokesman of IMF, during a press conference.

Affirming that this impact is still "evaluated", he noted that the sanctions might have an impact primarily on countries in the region, which maintain "very active and very direct" commercial ties with Russia, especially in central and eastern Europe, even in central Asia, the spokesman of IMF pointed out without going into further details.
