Deadline to pay road tax expires on December 31; double charges for late payment

In the case of late payment, meanwhile, the amount due will double.

Payment can be made at banks and post offices until next Friday with a 2-euro commission, while those wishing to hand in licence plates can go to their local tax office until Friday with the required supporting documents. These include the licence plates, registration, income tax form showing vehicle ownership, receipt for the payment of road tax in 2017, signed declaration that the vehicle withdrawn will be parked on private property and a police ID or proof of power of attorney if acting on behalf of an owner.

The amount of the road tax is unchanged compared with 2017 and the state intends to collect 1.1 billion euros in revenue from the tax.
