EU Commissioner Avramopoulos submits statement to the Parliament regarding Novartis case
EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos submitted a statement to the Parliament regarding the Novartis case of alleged bribery and money laundering in which case he is among ten politicians named for possible liability.
The statement will be read in the Parliament's plenary session, which is voting this evening on whether a preliminary investigation committee should be set up to review the liability of the ten politicians, who include two former prime ministers and eight former ministers.
According to sources, Avramopoulos questions the dates the alleged transactions occurred (during his tenure as health minister), particularly in relation to the dates the protected witnesses came forward to give their depositions. He also questions the fact that although some of the illegal acts were known, they were never investigated by any authority until now.
