Prosecutor opens case over sunken tanker that caused oil spill in Saronic Gulf
A Piraeus prosecutor filed a lawsuit on Friday against anyone responsible for the "negligent sinking" of the tanker “Agia Zoni II” last Sunday and the marine pollution caused from a leak in the ship.
The case file on the wreckage that caused extended pollution along the southern coast of Athens was prepared and submitted by the coast guard and the port authority.
The case has been assigned to an investigative judge who is expected to summon crew members and executives of the shipowning company to respond to questions on the incident.
