Did the Foreign Ministry hurry to be "aligned" on the Ukrainian issue?

Could the relocation of our Consulate from Mariupol to cause more security issues, than it tries to solve, for the numerous -and largely forgotten- Greek expatriates who live in the areas of the hostilities?

Several questions raised by the rather hasty decision of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs to relocate - even temporarily - the office of the Consulate General of Greece from Mariupol, where live most of the nearly 100,000 ethnic Greeks in Ukraine, at least as we know it until today.

According to the information so far, the Consulate did not operate continuously at its seat, but was forced after the slaughter of spring in the city streets, to move to different places, especially in some of the villages of the region. Of course these circumstances are not the best for the employees to the Consulate, which, in any case, however, remained close to our expatriates.

It is also clear that the front of the civil war in Ukraine moved to Mariupol, which the Russian-speaking rebels are openly declare their interest to "liberate" and judging by the current state in the balance of forces, they will probably succeed.

But it is worth remembering that our diplomatic staff had not moved in the case of the ruthlessly bombarded Belgrade or to Baghdad. So, even before there are any serious hostilities, before even made any threat against our Consulate General, remains a mystery why the Ministry of Foreign is in hurry to move its headquarters.
Even stranger is the relocation to Dnepropetrovsk, which is considered the base of the fascist Ukrainian National Guard. Did the "brains" of our ministry think on how our expatriates will pass the successive blocks of Russian-speaking rebels and of the forces loyal to Kiev to visit the consulate?

Or maybe we are once again faced with a perception of reality, reminiscent of that of our ambassador in Kiev, who made predictions that everything is and will be peaceful in SE Ukraine and that everyone accept the violent change of power in Kiev and subordinated to this?

Even more disturbing sounds the fact that the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke, as it said, with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry for the protection and safety conditions for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. The theoretical formulations and good compliance with the diplomatic rules is okay, but Kiev has virtually no control on the greater area of the Donetsk Region where the Greek expatriate live.

Furthermore it is obvious from the developments, that beyond the control of Kiev and the West, the EU in our case, the Russian-speaking rebels and Moscow are proceeding to the final secession of the so-called "Novorusia", originally of the regions Donetsk and Lugansk. So, why our Consulate hurried to leave? It is perhaps a sign that developments are inevitable and was better to relocate to territories of Ukrainian sovereignty.

Perhaps we should be the last who leave from the place, where our ancient ancestors left their traces, as in the coast of the Azov Sea. Perhaps once again the Foreign Ministry hurries, without thinking about the symbolism of their movements. Could the safety problem that we cause to our expatriates to be higher than this that we are supposed to solve? Finally, perhaps (even without saying publicly) we should begin to consult not only with the increasingly uncertain Ukrainian authorities, but with the power structures of "Novorusia' or better with Russia itself and its representatives. Do the Consulate and our diplomats have any idea about who are the chieftains of Greek origin rebels, who led the military operations, e.g. Fostiropoulos or "Tavladoros" who excelled in the descent to the sea and on Novoazofsk and "Souler" who contributed to the recovery of Giasinovatagia, outside Donetsk. These people seem to understand and know more than the western consultants that whisper in the ear of our diplomats in Kiev, who seem to have lost touch with reality...
