President Pavlopoulos: Greeks defend freedom at all costs
"Over time, we Greeks will defend freedom against everything and at all costs," was the message sent by President Prokopis Pavlopoulos from Lasithi Plateau during an event marking 150 years from a battle held in the area in eastern Crete.
The president highlighted that «the epic battle of Lasithi is an anthem to Cretans and all Greeks at the altar of freedom. The heroic fighters of Lasithi teach that we Greeks, worthy descendants of great ancestors over time, will defend freedom against everything and at all costs. All of this, all of these big battles fought by Cretans and Greeks, are summed up by the phrase from Nikos Kazantzakis: It is my duty, and mine alone, to save the earth. If it is not saved, then I alone am to blame».
