Attica hospitals workers on work stoppage 19:00 - 23:00 on Thursday
Staff at all Attica region hospitals will hold a work stoppage between 19:00 and 23:00 on Thursday, Hellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers (POEDIN) announced on Wednesday.
POEDIN calls its members to rally before the Ministry of Economy and Development during the same hours.
As reason for the stoppage POEDIN cites the tabling of the 2019 budget early on Wednesday, which, according to the Federation, shows that "public health and its workers are not among the government's priorities."
The announcement adds "that public health expenditure is stagnating at 5 pct of the GDP, with the expenditure ceiling remaining stable at 1.5 billion euros even though demand for public health services is up by 30 pct. At the same time, 60 pct of the medical equipment is outdated and in need of immediate replacement."
Finally, POEDIN's announcement refers to employee shortages in Attica hospitals and claims that the danger allowance currently paid to hospital workers will be either trimmed or dropped.
