President Sakellaropoulou: The example of the fighters of 1821 inspires and gives us courage
"The anniversary of the Revolution reminds us that nations take their place on the map of history with faith in their own strength, unity and passion for freedom," President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou said in a message on Friday, after the parade for the March 25 national Independence Day holiday, which celebrates the start of the 1821 Greek Revolution.
"The example of the fighters of '21 inspires us and gives us courage to protect our national sovereignty," she added.
"The heroic uprising of our forebears on March 25, 1821, after many struggles and sacrifices, led to shaking off the Turkish yoke and the creation of the modern Greek state. A country, democratic and independent, that has for many years been part of the core of the European Union," she said.
