Dadia national park wildfire spreads to the southwest
A precautionary evacuation of people with respiratory and mobility issues from the village of Lefkimi, at Dadia National Park, was carried out on Monday, where a wildfire is burning for a fifth consecutive day, said Evros Region Vice-Governor Dimitris Petrovic.
Moderate winds are fanning two fire fronts, he added, one in the southern part of the national park and the other in the southwestern region.
All firefighting efforts on Monday have focused on these two fronts, he added. On the southwestern front, firefighting forces are set to intercept the blaze after they first created a fire zone by clearing vegetation and trees.
Some 320 firefighters with 75 fire engines and 13 ground teams are assisted by 10 water-bombing aircraft and 13 helicopters.
