"Thank you for the honour and trust," President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on Wednesday, in a statement after Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that he is proposing Constantine Tassoulas to succeed her as the next President of the Republic, once her term ends on March 15.

Sakellaropoulou noted that during her time in the presidency, she tried to fulfill her duties with the greatest possible responsibility towards the Greek people and her conscience, respecting the responsibilities and institutional role of the President of the Republic, while she wished the President who will be elected by the Hellenic Parliament for the next five years every success.

In her statement, Sakellaropoulou stated:

"Five years ago, the Hellenic Parliament elected me to the office of President of the Hellenic Republic, following the proposal of the Prime Minister and President of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. I thank him for the honour and trust.

During my term, I tried to fulfill my duties with the greatest possible responsibility towards the Greek people and my conscience, respecting the responsibilities and the institutional role that the Constitution recognises for the President of the Republic.

I wish every success to the President who will be chosen by the Hellenic Parliament for the next five years."
