Greece's ambassador to Washington DC, Christos Panagopoulos, stressed the importance of the agricultural sector for the Greek economy and the American Farm School's longstanding contribution, referring to its programmes for backing young entrepreneurs that contribute to growth and creation of jobs.

The work of the American Farm School of Thessaloniki was presented at an event held at the Greek embassy, with the participation of ambassador Panagopoulos and former US ambassador to Athens Daniel Smith.

The speakers were David Acker, alternate dean of the College of Agriculture, Iowa State University, and associate of the Farm School, as well as its president, Dr Panos Kanellis.

Smith stressed that the 110-year-old Farm School constitutes a "successful example" in bilateral relations, while making special reference to agricultural tourism and the opportunities it offers in Greece. He also praised Greek farm products and their comparative advantages in the face of international competition.
