More dead due to alternative sources of heating

In Greece of the crisis, unemployment and Memorandum, 16 people were tragically killed in 2013, due to the fumes, or burned alive in fires that erupted from fireplaces or stoves...

The price of oil remains extremely high and thousands of people in order to warm, are turning to fireplaces, stoves and electric heaters, so the dead have risen notably in the province. The victims are elderly, and children, like in the tragedy in Kavala, where three little angels, Andrew just 5-years old, Gerasimos 7-years old and Telemachus 15- years old, were found dead with burns, inside the attic of their house which was wrapped in flames ... Three children "collateral damage" of the crisis ...

Shocking figures ... the list of victims grows

The figures of the Fire Service are shocking and reveal the tragedy ... In 2012 died 13 people, in 2013 the deaths increased further reaching 16. Compared with previous years, except for the two years 2007 and 2008 (in which we suffered very heavy winter), from the beginning of the memorandum and then there is a dramatic increase in fires, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens of people from fireplaces and stoves. Furthermore, in major urban centers atmosphere was filled with smog, which is a threat to public health.

Officers of the Fire Department are sounding the alarm, as thousands of people, because of the expensive price of heating oil, have turned to alternative forms of heating, and is increased the degree of risk for the onset of fire.
