Tsipras has already announced social measures, Tzanakopoulos says

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has already announced specific measures that will legislated directly to support the social majority, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Tuesday during a press briefing.

These measures include:

1. Reducing ENFIA by 10 pct on average and by up to 30 pct for less valuable properties in 2019, and by up to 20 pct overall and 50 pct in the case of small- and medium-value properties by 2020.

2. The reduction of social security contributions for professionals and freelancers earning above a certain amount to 13.3 pct from the current 20 pct. This means that average incomes will see a 35 pct improvement. At the same time, contributions for lawyers, doctors and engineers will be reduced to 64.5 euros per month.

3. Reduction of corporate tax by 1 pct in 2019, with a goal to make this 25 pct within four years.

4. The abolition of a fee for farming cooperatives.

5. A rent subsidy ranging from 70 euros to 200 euros per month for at least 300,000 households, currently being prepared by the labour ministry.

6. The recruitment of 7,500 permanent staff for Special Needs Education and Home Assistance programmes.

Four-Year Relief Program

Legislation for all the above measures will be enacted now and implemented in 2019, said Tzanakopoulos and noted that in addition, the prime minister has announced an integrated four-year relief programme that includes, among other things, the reduction of VAT - from 24 pct to 22 pct and from 13 pct to 12 pct - as well as an increase in the social state budgets for health, welfare and education.
