The so-called Thessaloniki Fair "basket" was the main topic in the interview of Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis with Kyriakatiki Apogevmatini on Sunday.

"The measures that Kyriakos Mitsotakis will announce at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) will focus on the most vulnerable Greeks and the middle class. We have pursued effective economic policies in recent years, and the dividends of growth are being returned to citizens. This is substantive social policy. We did it in previous years, and we will do it again this year, placing greater emphasis on reductions in direct taxes,” he said.

Hatzidakis added, "we are in a position to do this because our economy is growing at more than twice the rate of the European average. This year, for the first time, the discussion is not about what measures will be taken against tax evasion, but which taxes will be reduced!"

He continued, "the Greek economy is rising because the government has chosen the path of fiscal prudence. The tax reductions to be announced at the Thessaloniki Fair will be those that correspond both to the economy’s capacity and to European fiscal rules. This is a formula that promotes convergence with the most advanced countries of the European Union and strengthens the country’s credibility. We have no reason not to distribute funds that are permitted by both the economy’s capacity and EU fiscal rules. It would be naive to do the opposite! On the other hand, those who promise miracles would certainly drive the country onto the rocks and ultimately harm Greek citizens themselves," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised.
