The government is opening a needless domestic front of division, polarization, and toxicity" through the amendment for the Monument of the Unknown Soldier at Syntagma Square, PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Nikos Androulakis said in Parliament on Tuesday.

"The government has chosen to open a needless domestic front of division, polarization, and toxicity. It turns everything into a vehicle of political management," Androulakis said, adding, "The real and fundamental [...] question is, Does Greece have the luxury of becoming a field of division? For, your responsibility, Mr prime minister, is to unify Greek people in joint national visions and to work with reliability, seriousness, and responsibility so they become a reality."

The main opposition leader charged Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of "utilizing a symbol of unity to divide society and citizens."
