Pierrakakis: My election to Eurogroup Presidency belongs to Greece
Greece's Minister of National Economy and Finance and new President of the Eurogroup Kyriakos Pierrakakis, speaking in the Hellenic Parliament, stressed that he has just returned from Brussels with a great honour. "An honour that does not belong to one person does not belong only to one government. It belongs to Greece, to its citizens who deserve it because they endured, believed and moved forward even when conditions were adverse, even when the forecasts were not optimistic," he noted. Amid strong applause from MPs, Pierrakakis said that his election is above all a victory for the country, which has experienced difficulties and unprecedented crises."The very existence of the country within the eurozone had been called into question due to unusual experiments that tested the resilience of both the economy and society." But Greece did not bend; it moved forward with determination, with reforms that left behind the pathologies of decades, and with a society that showed remarkable endurance," he said, adding that "today, Greece is winning back Europe's trust, and that trust is the foundation on which we are building our future." Pierrakakis emphasised that Europe cannot progress with uncertainty; it requires a clear direction. He highlighted the necessity of maintaining a course defined by consistency, responsibility, and vision.
