Flights at the Athens International Airport are suspended on Sunday due to a technical issue that has occurred in the Air Traffic System.

According to an update from the Athens International Airport, "due to a technical issue in the Air Traffic System, all arrivals and departures to and from Athens International Airport are temporarily suspended."

According to sources from the Civil Aviation Authority, the problem occurred shortly before 10:00 in the morning, with aircraft grounded both at "El. Venizelos" and at other airports in the country, making arrivals and departures impossible.

The Ministry of Transport emphasized that some frequencies that serve the needs of the Athens FIR are facing a problem that is being investigated together with competent external bodies. "In order to maintain flight safety, only part of the overflights are being served, and restrictions have been placed on Greek airports," they said, while a relevant NOTAM has already been issued. The matter is under investigation and further announcements are expected.
