"The conditions are gradually emerging for Greece"

The conditions are gradually emerging for Greece's return to borrowing from the markets, a senior government source said in Dublin on Friday, after the end of the European People's Party (EPP) congress.

"When interest rates fall below 6.9 pct, the we have the necessary conditions and there is a possibility of returning to markets. We will decide examining how things develop. It is, in any case, a vindication of our policy," the source said according to ANA-MPA

"The reaction of markets to the way the economic figures are developing is extremely positive. The markets have taken in their stride the leaks that a large sum will be needed to recapitalise banks and this is reflected in the reduction in spreads. When you have a twin deficit that becomes a surplus, you have a miracle that those dealing in depth with the Greek economy did not expect," the source added.

The Dublin congress was attended by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who had a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday morning and discussed the progress of talks between the Greek government and the EU-IMF troika, which is currently in Athens reviewing the progress of Greece's adjustment programme.
