How long will we deceive ourselves?

How long will we deceive ourselves?

For at least two and a half decades specialists realize the "strategic" relationship between the EU and Russia, politicians proclaim their aim for a "Greater Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok" and it is assumed that diplomats and other mechanisms work to implement the above findings and objectives.

But in fact, even though our world has been changed and even though Russia renounced much of the practices that had characterize Russia as "unacceptable" by the other "democratic" countries, first and foremost the communist ideology, and adopted the market economy, the greats of West continue to bear against Moscow, like they did when Moscow was considered as a pariah or anyway the "black sheep" of the international "democratic" (to not forget) scene.

As if nothing shocking has happened to humanity after the 1990s , NATO constantly seeking to extend its presence to the east, the U.S. continues uninterrupted, despite Obama 's promises to the contrary , to promote their anti-missile shield in soft underbelly of Russia and generally everything Russian , from Gazprom , as the Olympics in Sochi and from the political practices up to the artistic choices Kremlin seems to cause fierce vexation in a bureaucracy , which dominates our fortunes , whether it resides in Washington or Brussels.

And even if all these were tolerated by Moscow during the period that was constantly retreating from all international issues and the American presidents were almost slapping the former Russian leader Boris Yeltsin, whispering "We have our people in the Kremlin," this seems now impossible under Vladimir Putin's presidency and the new data that have shaped the policy of rapid reconstruction of Russia and the dynamics of a return to the international stage.

By the entrance to the EU of countries that were permanently "disappointed" by their longtime problematic coexistence with Russia, of Poland initially and of the former Soviet republics of Baltic later, it seems that the voices of the "Russia-phobic" people had excessively been strengthened within the Union, which supposedly exists in order to promote the common interests of its members. Many Greeks bureaucrats and officials, diplomats or politicians consider the common "Russia-phobic" EU policy as precept that cannot be challenged, which is the reason that for many years, our services, Consulates and Embassies, faced with suspicion almost every Russian.

Although illegal immigrants and perpetrators of major crimes in our country normally originate from many other countries and rarely from Russia, but Greek agencies remain leery like being fired from backstage.

The crisis in Ukraine turns to a major test for the Euro- Russian relations and happens in a period that the supposedly "poor-but- honest" Greece has the EU presidency. Everything indicates that when the crisis is past, nothing will look the same anymore.

Either Europe and the bureaucracy will rise to the circumstances and will understand that some of their protagonists dragged them into unprecedented adventures, - like the support of the neo-Nazi politicians' coup - , who did not hesitate to use mercenary snipers, who spread terror, protesters and police, to achieve the rapid downfall of their opponent - or we will just have to admit again that United Europe is a myth, which is clearly demonstrated in the area of foreign policy.

If European politicians consider the recruitment of paid assassins as a minor fault of the "liberal and democratic" camp, which supposedly the EU prefers, and they even choose not to comment when the media revealed, then the Old Continent not only crumples, but has already been rotted to the bone and we have not understood it, or we pretend that we do not feel the smell.

Let's not fool ourselves any longer ... Either Europe and the West in general will learn to converse and listened to Russian objections, will learn to respect and take account of the interests of the other side and to find a common ground using common sense and ethic as tools, or we could simply weep at the grave of a beloved, - who proved a monster - , and move forward relieved...
