The President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias in the meeting he had with the President of the Legal Council of State, informed about the operations in which proceeds the Legal Council of State to issue a finding on the issue of German reparations.

Meanwhile, on the same subject and on the occasion of "the apology" of the German President Joachim Gkaouk - during his visit in early March in the village Ligkiades of Epirus - from the families of victims of the atrocities committed by the Nazis in second World War, a press conference was organized by the National Council for Bid Reparations of Germany to Greece.

"Our request today is : a peace treaty with Germany, which the "lawful" Germans are avoiding to sign, because only then will be required to pay their debts in Greece ," said Manolis Glezos , MP and president of the National Council for Bid Reparations of Germany to Greece.

"How honest can an apology be, when is not accompanied by corresponding acts? How can someone recognize the moral duty and not proceeding to compensation?" wondered Aristomenes Syngelakis , the member of the Coordinating Committee of the National Council for Bid reparations and the representative of the delegation in Ligkiades, characterizing the apology from the German President as a planned attempt to placate the Greek people. "We will not rest until we find justice," he said.

"Eighteen years ago the Germans were talking about sympathy, now they speak of apology," said Christina Stamoulis, lawyer and member of the Steering Committee of the National Council for Bid Reparations, tracing back to the judgment for Distomo and denial of justice ministers to execute the judgment, since 2000.

"70 years after the end of occupation, at last the time has come for the vindication of the Sacrifice of the Greek people; a sacrifice, which contributed greatly to the liberation of Europe and Germany itself from the Nazi yoke. Something that Germany must not forget. The payment of compensation to victims of Nazi atrocities, for the destruction of infrastructure and for the seizure of the wealth of our people as well as the return of the occupation's forced loan and the return of stolen cultural treasures, are a prerequisite in order to open a new period of peace and effective cooperation between the two nations , with the foundations of honesty , equality and reciprocity", highlighted in the announcement of the National Council.

Papoulias: The German compensations is a National issue

"You invited me, for the issue of German reparations. I've brought the findings, whatever you want to ask me, "said Mr. Sakellariou, addressing the President of the Republic

"Very nice. It is a hot topic. And when you speak about findings, does this mean that you have come to a conclusion?" Mr. Papoulias asked.

The Chairman of the State Legal Council explained that it is not the final decision but it is a step to classify the material and to use it as a base in Parliament's Legal Council, which will make a relevant finding.

Papoulias asked about the time required to do this and Mr. Sakellariou replied he expected a commission to determine the amounts and then will address the Plenary.

" So , there will be a ready file, something that does not exist now," remarked the President . Positive replied the chairman of the Legal Council of State, as they receive data from all services as the Bank of Greece and the Treasury.

Mr. Papoulias asked Mr. Sakelariou about his non-binding estimation about the case in general, and Mr. Sakelariou replied "We are optimistic".

"This is good. It's a big issue, not only of economic importance but also nationally", said Mr. Papoulias.
