In the southern Indian Ocean, at the point where the investigations have been focused, there is a huge vortex called Gyre, which can suck anything to the bottom of it and move it even by 1,500 miles over a period of 10 days. That was said by the Lecturer in the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences University of Malaysia (UM) Prof. Dr. Azizan Abu Samah on the situation in the southern Indian Ocean, about 2,500 miles southwest of Perth, Australia.

Azizan says that the size of large eddies called Gyre in the Indian Ocean is vast and extends from Sumatra, Indonesia to the coast of Madagascar. The region is considered one of the most remote regions of the world, the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott added when he announced yesterday that two satellites detected a large object that may be derived from flight MH370.

There are five such huge whirlpools worldwide. The other four are located in the North Atlantic Ocean, the North Pacific Ocean, the South Atlantic Ocean and South Pacific Ocean.
