Diaspora parades for March 25th in Canada

The Diaspora does not forget... As every year in both America and Canada, Greeks celebrated the National Day of March 25th, with a parade at Danforth Avenue in Toronto.

Present were all candidates mayors of the city, who drew the interest of Canadian media. The Metropolitan Archbishop of Canada Sotirios was also at the parade, as the General Consul of Greece Dimitris Azemopoulos, the chairman of the Greek community Antonis Artemakis and other officials of the politics of Ontario and Canada. Over 3,000 students and members of local Greek associations paraded in the heart of Toronto, honoring the anniversary of national rebirth, while thousands of Greek flags waved everywhere despite the freezing cold that reached-15C.

Before the parade many gathered at the cathedral of St. Demetrius, Metropolitan Archbishop led a service. The festivities were delivered by Azemopoulos, who stressed that the Greeks of 1821 dared to devise a new course with the revolution, setting an example for humanity. Then a wreath at the statue of Alexander the Great took place in memory of the heroes of the Revolution with the participation of Prime Minister of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne. The crowd also attended a event at PanMacedonian Union Hall, where Greeks and youth flocked.
