Erdogan's party declares his own victory in the elections
The candidate for Mayor of Ankara, who belongs to the party of Prime Minister Tayyip Edogan, said today that he defeated his rival opposition candidate.
"Prime Minister, you have opened the road for us. The people of Ankara and Turkey followed your way with 45%. The road is open" said Melih Gokcek, the mayor, who is running for his fifth term.
After counting the 99,65% of the ballots, Gökçek collects 44,74% of the votes against 43,81% of his opponent of Republican People's Party Mansur Yavas.
