Adonis admitted that he doesn’t know how many are uninsured

He said that "according to the estimates the uninsured should range between from 1.9 to 2,400,000 people, but we will get the actual picture in about three weeks, through the Atlas system". Of course, most social institutions, including EOPYY, raise the number of uninsured to 3,000,000. Georgiades announced an ongoing program for health care of uninsured citizens, but declined to give further details about the new resource that will be adopted for this purpose. In any case, the Health Ministry is expected to announce in June the program for pharmaceutical care in uninsured.

The Health Minister also admitted that "many hospitals refuse to treat uninsured people because of reduced funds budgeted for hospitals and that many hospital administrators are squeezing their finances". Finally, he noted that the resources of the kickbacks of armaments that have been returned to the public will be used to cover surgical interventions to uninsured patients. Already the General Accounting Office has reached the amount of 13 million euros, which will be directed exclusively to regular surgeries of uninsured. Moreover, according to Minister of Health, public hospitals have created three-member Committees to advance this issue with a circular of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health.
