Greek ship-owners "do not pay" and invest 9 billion
The image is revealing, as shown by the data of the shipbrokers company "Golden Destiny", for the investments by Greek ship-owners on January - March 2014, compared with the same period last year.
16.5 % of orders of the world shipping calculated in dwt (dead weight) belong to Greek ship-owners along with the 28.9% of market share of second hand ships.
The financial status of most Greek ship-owners, following their refusal to be taxed a little more than in previous years - although the dozens of tax breaks that they enjoyed would not had changed-, they could only be blooming.
It is characteristic that their total investments in new and used boats in only three months exceed $ 9 billion, compared to 5 billion in the same period last year.
Furthermore, estimates refer to a strong upward trend in the freight market and the future will prove more profitable for Greek ship-owners. But some of them insist on shouting "do not pay" when asked to contribute to the tax revenue of the country and to speak about "unconstitutional acts" preferring other flags than that of their country, when the same time are affected fundamental rights of Greek citizens such as universal access to a free and public health.
