Two women candidate Mayors in Gavdos

In the upcoming elections, for the first time, there will be two ballots with two women candidates Mayors. According to flashnews.gr, not only the "tradition" that wanted the community council or mayoral election conclude without an opponent will be stopped, but also the "tradition" that wanted Gavdos to be represented only by the male gender. Specifically, the approximately 100 voters (150-160 registered) in the municipality in the May 18 elections will have to choose between: the combination led by candidate Mayor Evangelia Kallinikou, who is alderman of Gavdos, and the combination led by Mayor candidate Sophia Tsiridani, who served as president of the Gavdos community for the period 2007-2010. Both candidates have established combinations with 15 candidate councilors, two more than the city council of the island.
