Adonis Georgiades: Acknowledgments to Germany for reform
It is striking, however, as evidenced by the statements of Georgiades that the Minister of Health isn't hiding anymore, as he clearly emphasizes that the whole design of the reform in our country held the "seal" of the German government. And it's true irony that Georgiades stressed "the reform was done in a way that respects the Greek people's money and that in the end the public will have better health than in the past". For what reform was he talking about, for the reform which has dissolved the public health and has created numerous uninsured, or to reform through which the citizen cannot even find the basic drugs and are forced at the end of the day to pay more money out of their pocket?
The statements of Georgiades are as follows: "We had a very productive discussion with my German counterpart, whom I once again thank because with the help of Germany this time we can design a whole program of reforms in the health sector in Greece. We expect that, when finalized, they will provide Greek citizens much better health care than in the past, with less money and more respect for the money of Greek people. This couldn't be done without the help of health professionals from Germany and full support from the German Ministry of Health, which is with us at every step. Through this partnership I believe that both ministries show how Europe can be in the future. A Europe of solidarity and cooperation, which will leave behind the misery and give an opportunity to the people of Europe for a better common future. So I want to thank him and welcome him to Greece".
From his part, Gröhe mentioned: "I want to thank Georgiades both for the hospitality and for an interesting discussion and information. We are convinced that for the economic and social development of a country we should strive to ensure high quality health services. I'm impressed with the conviction with which the Greek government is proceeding with the necessary reforms. We support and we want people to soon experience these changes in their daily lives. We work closely together to improve health services and the successful efforts that are already underway will continue. We also support the effort for all citizens, even the uninsured, to have full access to the health system. This implies that all operators of health services, hospitals, departments, physicians and all employees can and should help to bring these services to the citizens. The upgrading of health services is, in our opinion, the most important of all we do".
