Many people in the distributing of free food from producers
Incredible scenes unfolded yesterday at the weekly markets of Athens and Thessaloniki, where producers gave away free products in a protest against the rules promoted by the government. From early morning lines of people were created, so many roads around the markets were closed, while tension between the citizens for a bag of food was recorded. But, in the public market of Kolonos the situation escaped all bounds, as total chaos prevailed. Fights for a bag of potatoes with incredible images from the markets for distributing free food producers set up. Thousands of citizens lined up to ensure some potatoes or some bags of vegetables and fruits. Pokes and quarrels for a bag with vegetables or fruit turned the protest into loot.
For the third day the demonstrations by producers who sell their products in local markets to protest the draft law put forward by the government continued. According to the announcement, free distribution to consumers will be made in the following areas: Ano Smirni on Street Hellespont, Peristeri on Saint Antonios, Kolonos on Street Epidaurus, Drapetsona on Street Rigas Fereos, Nikaia on Street Philadelphia, Menidi at City Hall (Bosda) and Eleusis on Street National Resistance. For today, Thursday, May 1st, the protesters will participate in the May Day strike concentration with workers, self-employed and retired.
Skouraitis: Currently in Menidi over 20,000 people
Kostantinos Skouraitis, federation president of the Attica Region, spoke to newsbomb.gr on the massive turnout of citizens in local markets and said "We have launched concentrations after the multibill that will be voted in the Parliament and that creates huge problems for us in the markets, since Monday morning. We begin the course with a demonstration from the Ministry of Development to the House. We went yesterday to Rendi and today five federations throughout Greece decided that all products from Monday and Tuesday that weren't available should be distributed to Greek people through ten farmers markets in the Attica region. Currently in Menidi there are over 20,000 people".
Indeed, as you can see in the video below, because of the unexpected intrusion of many citizens that rushed to benefit at the expense of some other fellow citizens by taking more than one bag, Skouraitis announced to the public that next Monday there will be a new release that will arrange to be done indoors in order to procure the products to citizens who really need them.
