Kostarakos to be new chairman of EU Military Committee
Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) Chief Gen. Mikhail Kostarakos was chosen as the new chairman of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) by the EU member-state Chiefs of Defence, in a vote held at the two-day EUMC meeting that ended in Brussels on Thursday.
The Chairman of the EUMC has a three-year term in office and Gen. Kostarakos will take over his new duties in November 2015, the HNDGS announced.
National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias congratulated Gen. Kostarakos on his election, noting that his success "is also a success for Greece and our Armed Forces."
He also expressed his conviction that Gen. Kostarakos will work productively and effectively "to build a new strategy for the EU Common Defence and Security Policy, in the course toward a truly United Europe."
