Giannakopoulos-Support to road traffic police of Attiki odos
Presence of the Director of Traffic Police of Attica, Brigadier D. Papanagiotou, and the director of the Department of Traffic Police of Attiki Odos, Superintendent E. Kountromichalis, Mr. Giannakopoulos gave 55 phosphorate windproof jackets, to upgrade the equipment and facilitate the work of the police.
The Director of Attica Traffic thanked Mr. Giannakopoulos, offering him an honorary plaque. "You understand our painful struggle, to be present, close to the citizens and to help them," he said among others. "We support you, in order you to support us," said Mr. Giannakopoulos, expressing congratulations and his gratitude as a citizen, for the work of the Greek Police.
The Traffic Police is fighting under difficult conditions and is facing underfunding problems, affecting mainly the equipment.
Specifically, the officers of the Department of Attiki Odos have the responsibility to the busiest highway in Greece, but this is among the safest in Europe. This is evidenced by the ratio of the number of dead in relation to the cars in Attiki Odos and largely is due to the good work of the Department of Traffic Police.
The first concern of the Department is to prevent accidents, so we are very strict with the drivers who make dangerous maneuvers and the use of a mobile phone on the move.
As noted the Commander of Traffic of Attiki Odos, Mr. Kountromichalis, the jackets which were donated by Mr. Giannakopoulos are absolutely necessary for the safety of the Police men, as it is very important to be visible to the drivers of passing vehicles, day and night.
To highlight this need, Mr. Kountromichalis referred to a recent tragic incident when a man of DI.AS team lost his life in the rise of Kifissias Av., in an effort to help a stationary vehicle in Emergency Lane. His life could have been saved if the unlucky police officer was wearing phosphorate jacket.
The donation of the windproof jackets is a continuation of the social service of Giannakopoulos family. About two years ago, Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos had donated to the Greek Police 10 motorcycles, while another donation is prepared in order to repair and maintenance of motorcycles, to remain functional, safe and ready for the work of the Police.
