Parliament gets Papantoniou case file on Olympic Games security system
The documents relating to charges of continual passive bribery by former National Defence Minister Yiannos Papantoniou over the 2004 Olympic Games security system were filed in Parliament by special appeals prosecutor Dimitris Orfanidis on Monday.
Papantoniou is currently in custody with his wife awaiting trial on money laundering over a contract to upgrade six frigates of the Greek Navy while he was minister of defence (Oct. 2001-March 2004).
The case folder sent to Parliament, which has jurisdiction over money laundering charges for former ministers, relates to the purchase and installation in 2003 of the C41 security system for the Olympic Games in Athens. It includes a 54-page documenet and a USB, as well as the most recent testimony of Evangelos Vassilakos, who served as head of the Defence Ministry's General Directorate of Defense Procurements and Investments from April 2006 to October 2010.
