Main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday pointed out the need to support labour and give enterprises access to subsidies at a meeting with the board of the association of Artisanal Winemakers of Greece in Spata.

"There is no excuse for not supporting enterprises today. Support of enterprises also means support of labour," stated Tsipras, noting that "if businesses start to shutter, if productivity stops, then unemployment will rise again to the nightmarish levels we saw 2014," adding that this would then establish a vicious cycle.

Regarding SYRIZA's proposals, he explained that the main opposition proposes the "support of employment, which subsidises work not its suspension."

He also said that, especially for winemakers, that should be provision, namely in the form of a significant subsidy so they can proceed to distilling.

Additionally, he spoke of SYRIZA's proposals for the provision of tax relief and the reduction of VAT in catering to 6 pct, as well as emergency income support for farmers, underlining that the wager is to take advantage of the available funds to support businesses.
