2024 is expected to be a record year for Greek exports of fresh fruits and vegetables.

According to estimates by INCOFRUIT-HELLAS, Association of Greek Export and Consignment Enterprises for Fruit, Vegetables & Juices, they will increase by 8.2% compared to the previous year, reaching a value of 1.861 billion euros.

Imports, according to INCOFRUIT-HELLAS, increased sharply by 13.6% based on official data for the first 11 months of 2024 and provisional data for December.

In detail, fruit and vegetable exports will increase by 8.2% in value compared to 2023, based on official data from January to November and provisional data for December, while the volume will also increase, around 1.7% and will exceed 1.78 million tons.

Greek fruit and vegetable exports to the European Union amounted to 1.24 million tons and 1.26 billion euros in the first 11 months of 2024, representing 78.34% of the volume of exports in that period, which reached 1.582 million tons and 76.92% of the value, totaling 1.638 billion euros.

Romania is in first place in Greek exports. The country imported 296.56 thousand tons of fresh fruits and vegetables from January to November, with a value of 222.252 million euros and an average unit price of 0.75 euros/kilo, according to the Association.

Bulgaria follows with imports of 248.2 thousand tons, worth 132.215 million euros and an average unit price of 0.53 euros/kilo.

Shipments to Germany also increased, reaching 161.27 thousand tons in volume, but they are in first place in terms of value, which amounted to 249.04 million euros, with an average price of 1.54 euros/kilo.

Poland, Italy, Spain follow with 142.43 thousand tons, 79.93 thousand tons and 45.45 thousand tons, but also 143.59 million euros, 118.98 million euros and 62.97 million euros respectively.

As the Association reported, exports outside the European Union constitute 22% of the total and amount to 342.7 thousand tons and 377.96 million euros, according to 11-month data from ELSTAT.
