Snow fell in areas near the city of Thessaloniki; schools closed

Mountainous and semi-mountainous areas in Thessaloniki were covered with snow on Monday.

More specifically, snow fell during the night in Chortiatis, Panorama, Retziki, Melissochori, Oreokastro and in villages of the municipality of Lagada, where the landscape is more reminiscent of Christmas than Easter. Snowflakes also fell in Derveni and Eptapyrgio.

Due to the snowfall in the mountainous areas of Thessaloniki, traffic was interrupted on the provincial roads of Chortiatis - Agios Vasilios and Melissochori - Oreokastro. However, vehicle traffic is proceeding without problems on the Thessaloniki Peripheral Road, as well as on the central road axes of the city.

Schools of all levels of education in the municipality of Lagada will remain closed.

Snowfall was also recorded in the mountainous areas of Halkidiki, where schools in the municipal units of Zervochoria, Polygyros, Vrastamo and Taxiarchis will remain closed.
