Government officials on the issue of Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai

Government officials on Friday stated the following regarding the Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai:

"The official announcements from the Egyptian side are moving in the right direction. Pending the full evaluation of the court decision, the two governments will continue the discussion in the immediate future to resolve the issue in an institutional manner, in the direction of common understanding and what was agreed upon privately and announced publicly during the recent visit of the Egyptian President to Athens: the aim is to protect the religious and Greek Orthodox character of the Monastery."
