Tsiaras: Meeting with roadblock representatives was productive
Minister of Rural Development and Food Kostas Tsiaras described as productive a nearly five-hour meeting with a 31-member delegation representing the roadblocks, held at the Maximos Mansion in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.Tsiaras affirmed the government's support for producers and highlighted that all matters pertaining to the primary sector were addressed during the discussion.He noted that measures already announced were analysed, including reduced agricultural electricity prices and the removal of the special consumption tax on agricultural diesel at the pump.Issues such as the impact of the climate crisis, major irrigation projects and the establishment of agricultural chambers were also discussed.In addition, Tsiaras emphasised that farmers will be represented on committees dealing with trade agreements under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Tsiaras also noted that representatives of the roadblocks requested, less frequent electricity billing and a recalculation of fuel allowances for agricultural diesel.
