Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni met Algeria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sofiane Chaib during his visit to Greece for the third meeting of the Greece–Algeria Joint Interministerial Committee, being held in Athens on January 19–20.According to a relevant announcement, Chaib informed Kefalogianni of the intention of Algeria’s Tourism and Craftsmanship Minister to invite Greece to participate as guest of honour at the International Tourism and Travel Exhibition (SITEV) in 2026. He also referred to the dynamic growth of tourism in Algeria.Kefalogianni presented Greece’s strategy for diversifying its tourism product and opening up to new markets through the development of special forms of tourism aimed at strengthening the country’s international position. She also outlined initiatives for the digital transformation of the tourism ecosystem, including the development of digital platforms, with the aim of achieving balanced tourism growth and addressing contemporary challenges such as climate change and the preservation of cultural heritage.Kefalogianni emphasised the potential for strengthening bilateral cooperation through the exchange of know-how in tourism education.Reference was also made to efforts to establish a direct air link between the two countries, with the minister noting that air connectivity is a key factor in boosting travel and investment flows.On the sidelines of the summit, a "Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Tourism" between Greece and Algeria is expected to be signed.
