Yanukovych: fascists have taken over the country

The deported Ukraine president Victor Yanukovych claimed today that “he had not been overthrown” and promised “to keep fighting for the future of Ukraine”, during his first public appearance after his deportation last Saturday.

During a press conference that took place in the Russian city Rostov near the Ukrainian borders, Yanukovych said that he had to leave Ukraine after facing death threats and stated that the country is presently ruled by “extreme nationalists, young fascists consisting absolute minority”.

He blamed the West for Ukrainian crisis claiming that it “supported” the protestors that wanted his inversion. “This is the result of the irresponsible political strategic of the West, which supported Maidan’s protestors” he pointed out referring to the anti-government protestors in the Kiev the last three months.
Lawlessness and chaos followed the agreement that he had signed last Friday with the leaders of the opposite political party after negotiations under the auspices of the European Union, and that he planned to end the crisis.

The deported president apologized to the Ukrainian people for “the luck of power in order to maintain the stability and for allowing this mess to happen”, while was answering a journalist who asked him if he felt ashamed at all.

He also said that he will return to the country the moment that he will have reinsurances that the lives of his family and his own are not at stake any more, mostly given by the international mediators. Yanukovych had pointed out that he didn’t escape the country but he went from Kiev to Kharkov when he was attacked with machine guns.

He also stated that he has talked to the Russian president Vladimir Putin over the phone, after his arrival in Russia but he has not met him. Concerning Crimea tension he mentioned that is a normal response against the grasp of the governance and the “gangsters’ political coop” and pointed out that Crimea must be part of Ukraine but also maintain its autonomy.

He added that he will not ask Russia for military support and also that he will not be a candidate to the elections for president in May, referring to them as “illegal”.
