A story of disgrace: Tax office grabbed his first salary!
52 years old Sotiris Makris had hardly the chance to touch his first salary after 4 years unemployed when the state showed its ugly face.
Although he had a second chance in labor due to a 5 months’ work program in municipality of Larisa, the local tax office foreclosed his first salary to cover a 700 euro debt.
“For four years I was borrowing money and my mother’s pension in order to live. The church and the neighbors were bringing us food. When I was hired in the municipality of Larisa for five months in the cemetery services I thought that this was a second chance for me for a descent life”, says to “Real News”. Instead I felt the state cruelty.
“I went to the bank to receive my first paycheck, almost 300 euro, and I realized that my account balance was zero. I almost had a heart attack! When they informed me that the money was foreclosed by the local tax office I started to cry,” the 52year old man admits.
He explained that years ago he didn’t proceeded as a witness to a trial and the fine –of which he wasn’t aware of- raised to 700 euro over the years.
