Catherine Ashton, the head of European diplomacy, will meet today in Madrid with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in order to discuss the crisis in Ukraine.

She will visit Kiev, one day ahead of the EU Council for Foreign Affairs, that will be held in Brussels on Thursday. “I will talk with the Russian Foreign Minister tomorrow in Madrid and Wednesday I will visit Kiev " was announced by her spokesman, Michael Mann, on Twitter.
On her behalf, Ashton said: "The dialogue at all levels is very important". "We really want this situation to be resolved soon with a peaceful way" she added.
