Nicosia denies that Turkey proposed visit to Anastasiadis

Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides denied that Turkey proposed a trip of President, Nikos Anastasiadis, to Ankara and a trip of the Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu to Athens.

Commenting on relevant information which was mentioned in a Turkish newspaper, Kasoulides stressed that this period is not offered for symbolism and that even if there was such a proposal, it wouldn’t be accepted. Speaking on television PIK, Kasoulides noted that “we should stick to the shape of the visits of negotiators in Athens and Ankara, respectively and see how it goes”.

The Foreign Minister also referred to the role of the United States in the Cyprus problem, saying that the U.S. government is willing to help, without staying in the background. “This assistance relates to efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, but also on a creation of a relationship with trust” he stated.

Commenting on information about a possible meeting of Eroglu and Anastadiadis, he said Anastasiadis doesn’t have a problem and that meetings between the two men are good in general.
