Mitarachi meets with Malta's Interior Min Camilleri
Migration and Asylum Μinister Notis Mitarachi had a meeting with Malta's Interior Minister Byron Camilleri, as part of his visit to Valletta, the ministry announced on Friday.
According to the ministry, the two ministers discussed the challenges that Greece and Malta face in common as frontline countries in the management of migration.
They also expressed the common belief that the new European Migration and Asylum Pact currently under negotiation is not a prerequisite for action in the fields of foreign relations, border protection and returns. The two ministers stressed the need for effective border protection but also for the establishment of a system of solidarity as a prerequisite for a sustainable and fair common European migration and asylum policy.
Camilleri underlined the need to strengthen cooperation with the Libyan authorities, as most of the flows come from this country.
