Adonis Georgiadis reverses stance after outcry
The Heath Minister, Adonis Georgiadis, seems to be ready to change stance after outcry from other parties and from health institutions about the five euros.
With a statement he said that all necessary measures are examined. He added that a transitional period until the end of 2014 is needed for the compatibility between the two systems, IKA and ESY.
In detail, the notice of the Minister is as follows: "In accordance with the law applicable in the Primary Health Care and in ESY, in all hospitals, from 2011 the € 5 ticket will apply. Under the new bill passed for P.ED.Y., former polyclinics IKA will integrate in ESY. But with the law we provide a transitional period until 31 December 2014 , on the terms and conditions of compatibility between the two systems. During this time we will consider all necessary measures. In any case, the new system in terms of simple prescription, will provide free services".
